Duneland

Goals

The company’s initial goals were:

1. To ensure the protection of the Dunes area as an undeveloped natural area.
2. To ensure public access to the Dunes area.
3. To provide a protective, mainly woodland, buffer zone between the Dunes and the Community, maintaining and improving the existing 30 acres of woodland and providing additional land for woodland development.
4. To enable the continued development of the ecovillage project of the Community to achieve its fullest potential through:
a. Physically linking the various parcels of land already involved.
b. Making additional land available for appropriate forms of development.
5. To ensure a reasonable return to the investors through development, in cooperation with the other partners in the ecovillage project and the community as a whole.

What we have done so far

Goals 1 and 2 have now been achieved with the transfer of the larger part of the dunes area to the Findhorn Dunes Trust in November 2000.
Goal 3 is being implemented through tree planting and protection.
Goals 4 and 5 will be the main focus of the company over the next ten years.

The 1998 Moray Development Plan expanded the area of Duneland within the settlement boundary from about 5 acres to about 10 acres. We anticipate the final settlement boundary extending to the full 16 acre area of the magic triangle.
